Sep 14, 2017 · The club can be traced back to its earliest incarnation as FC Olympia Oberschöneweide in 1906, then SC Union Oberschöneweide. The club earned the nickname ‘Schlosserjungs’ (metalworker boys) due to their all-blue kit which invoked the uniform of local factory workers.
The new stadium was officially opened in August 1920 with a match between Oberschöneweide and the then German champions 1. FC Nürnberg (1–2). The inaugural match in at the Alte Försterei had already been played on 17 March, when Union challenged Viktoria 89 Berlin.

FC Union Berlin was founded in 1966, but its pre-history goes all way back to 1906 when its forerunner FC Olympia Oberschöneweide was funded – that is one of many clubs that Union Berlin has its root in.
Only a part of the club decided to compete at the Oberliga level, while the others competed at lower levels. At the end of the 1952/53 season, the BSG Motor Oberschöneweide was relegated from the Oberliga to the first division. On February 1, 1955, the club was renamed SC Motor Berlin.
