G.I. Joe: Retaliation is a 2013 American military science fiction action film based on the G.I. Joe toy line. It is the second installment in the G.I. Joe film series and the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009).
G.I. Joe: Retaliation was made in response to the lukewarm reaction to GI Joe The Riseof Cobra, which was considered too high-tech to the point of lacking tension (everyone had a tool or vehicle to solve the problem), too many characters showing up and dropping out of the narrative and relied too much on slick CG for their action scenes.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation was a sequel and soft reboot to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. This movie continued some of the plotlines of the previous movie, but dropped many of the ancillary characters and instead focused on Roadblock, portrayed by series newcomer Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and his team.

I believe that the worst aspect of Retaliation is that it was meant to be a soft reboot but also a semi sequel to The First movie. Which doesn't work at all if it's supposed to be a reboot. Characters from the first movie don't exist (Hawk, Heavy Duty, Scarlet, breaker and ripcord) and the P.I.T. is now a out in the open base in the desert.
