   Is martyrs a good horror movie?

   • Martyrs is one of few horror movies that left me with an absolute sense of emptiness once it was over. I wasn't prepared for the ending because of the cliche beginning scenes with the monster reminiscent of asian horror movie ghosts. I didn't know what to expect since I didn't know a single thing about it.

   Is martyrdom a good movie?

   • The people with the Martyrdom obsession weren't really talked about in the first half of the movie, or drowned out by Anna's unfortunate semi-insanity. So that kinda screwed with things for me. It was an interesting movie, but not one I'd gladly say is a favorite. For me this is one of the most overrated horrors that is always brought up.

   • But the horror of Martyrs isn’t just the violence but the emotional aspect of it. It’s so depressing, nihilistic, dark and cruel to its characters. That’s what makes the violence more visceral and hard-hitting, instead of just being a mindless gore movie.

   • One is dubbed and the other isn't. So what are some gruesome movies that you'd say are definitely above 'Martyr's'? Hostel easily. Even the Saw movies are more gruesome & I don't even like those movies. The skinned scene from Martyrs where she lays there is really all that even comes to mind because the movie was a let down & that was pretty tame.

   Is martyrs a cult movie?

   • It starts as a supernatural ghost story and then turns into a revenge film and then transitions into a cult/torture film. Martyrs is also my most prized Bluray I didn't like the way the torture scenes were set to music towards the end.

   Is martyrs worth watching?

   • "Martyrs" leaves its audience numbed by its brutality, but with precious little else, and ultimately comes off as mere torture-porn with a glib pretension of meaning. I won't say it's not worth watching, but be prepared to be unsatisfied. Mayhaps that was Laugier's intent; if so, his intentions were shallow and venal.

   This isn't a good movie at all. Almost everything you knew from the beginning (it's obvious Lucie was hallucinating) and the characters are there without any thoughts. It's like there is no freedom for them to act and they have to do what's written.

   I haven't seen the remake but even without the gore Martyrs is just a good movie. It has sympathetic leads, pretty good pacing/writing, strong cinematography/SPFX, and a twisty, surprising plot. It wasn't a story I had seen 100 times before even though I can genuinely imagine this scenario happening in real life.
