Yes, this is an indie game still in development with a small team. Performance is still a problem at the end of the day. It’s also not a rule that games in development like this must be poorly optimized. Warframe was extremely well optimized way back in early 2015, for example.
The thing is - you cannot compare the performance of an i5 and 1060 to your i7 and 1080. Surely that 1060 doesn't have the same settings as your 1080. If that's the case - something is definately wrong with your rig... and your gf's Mac is pulling some magical tricks. It's all about settings.
