Sep 14, 2023 · The Big Hit might have been greenlit as an attempt to cash in on the popularity of Tarantino, but by putting a proven Hong Kong director at the wheel, the result feels not like a copy, but like the real deal. There’s nothing forced about its more shocking violence or its heightened comedy.
The Big Hit is as much a representation of the late 90s zeitgeist as it is a messy action film, with a very blunt, matter-of-fact performance from Marky Mark. There is a lite Hong Kong touch to the ordeal which probably stems from Executive Producer John Woo among others.
