  1. Nov 25, 2013 · Although this season is definitely not the best one in a series so great, this episode stands out solely because it is 22 minutes of rhyming. Hats off to the writers for this episode because making the entire dialog nursery rhymes is not easy, and I believe that they pulled it off quite well.

Warning: Full spoilers from the episode to follow.

Hoo boy, and I thought last week's episode of How I Met Your Mother was a time-killer. Here, the wedding weekend came to a complete halt, as Marshall hopped on a bus and regaled baby Marvin with made-up nursery stories... told all in rhyme. For 22 minutes.

First, I have to admit, the rhyming structure was a bold move on the part of the creators, and I do commend them for actually going through with it. It takes some real cojones to even attempt an episode like this.

Having said that, the overall execution of the rhymes was only just okay, with most of the stanzas cramming in extra syllables and the actors often tripping up the rhythm (I'm looking at you, Alyson Hannigan.) As a result, this episode ended up being pretty darn weak, if only because the rhyming aspect of it kind of fell flat on its face. In fact, I think the only rhyme that I chuckled at was: "Forgive me, but before you got here, did you smoke a joint? You don't tell kids a tale that crass!" "I guess he had a point."

How I Met Your Mother's all-rhyming episode had a couple somewhat promising stories, but they were all but marred by a mediocre execution. That's not to mention the fact that it had next to nothing to do with the wedding weekend. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Max Nicholson is a writer for IGN, and he desperately seeks your approval.
