Deathmaker (German: Der Totmacher) is a 1995 German film directed by Romuald Karmakar and starring Götz George, Jürgen Hentsch and Pierre Franckh. The film is based on the transcripts of the interrogation of the notorious serial killer Fritz Haarmann.
Like those films THE DEATHMAKER was made in Germany, where Haarmann’s name is still a household word, and is easily the most factual of the three, as director Romuald Karmakar (THE HIMMLER PROJECT) based his account directly on Haarmann’s actual psychiatric report from 1924.
Synopsis. In 1924, as Friedrich W. Murnau's THE LAST LAUGH comes out, Thomas Mann's "Magic Mountain" is published, and Adolf Hitler is indicted for high treason in Munich, a criminal case in Hanover causes a sensation in Germany.
