Black Magic, later retitled Meeting at Midnight for television, is a 1944 mystery film directed by Phil Rosen and starring Sidney Toler as Charlie Chan. [1] It was the third Charlie Chan film made by Toler at Monogram Pictures.
The film was later reissued as Meeting at Midnight, probably so as to avoid confusion following the 1949 release of the Orson Wells film also titled Black Magic. Although a Hollywood Reporter news item lists Trevor Bardette in the cast, his participation in the completed film has not been confirmed.
Black Magic: Directed by Phil Rosen. With Sidney Toler, Mantan Moreland, Frances Chan, Joseph Crehan. Charlie searches for a murderer amidst numerous ghosts conjured up by a strange variety of spiritualists and occultists.

Released in 1944, MEETING AT MIDNIGHT (also known as BLACK MAGIC) is often described as one of the best Chan films made at Monogram--but the term "best" is comparative. It is certainly better than such Monogram Chan films as THE TRAP, but it is a far cry from the 20th Century Fox films of the 1930s.
