- Château de Compiègne. This neoclassical palace had been a royal residence and hunting lodge since the time of Charles V in 1374. Louis XIV stayed here 75 times and Louis XV reworked the entire estate in the middle of the 18th century, giving it the imposing exteriors we see now.
