Leighton Barracks is a former military garrison, located on top of a hill in the Hubland area 1.8 miles (3 km) east of the City of Würzburg, in Franconia, Germany.
Jun 7, 2022 · WÜRZBURG, GERMANY. A large military hospital complex was built in Würzburg in 1936-37. When the U.S. Army moved into the area in April 1945, this facility was taken over by the 107th EVAC Hospital, and it continues to serve as a U.S. Army hospital today.
Following World War II, Würzburg was occupied by the U.S. Army's 1st and 3rd infantry divisions, as well as an Army hospital staff and various other U.S. military units. The last U.S. troops were withdrawn in 2008, concluding more than 60 years of U.S. presence in Würzburg.
