Walter MacEwen (13 February 1860, Chicago - 20 March 1943, New York City) was an American painter. From 1884 to 1914, he often lived and worked in the Netherlands. He is considered to have been a member of the Egmondse School , named after the mostly American artists' colony near Egmond aan Zee.
Walter MacEwen has received virtually no scholarly attention. Assimilating primary-source materials, this thesis provides the first serious examination of MacEwen’s life and career, thereby providing insight into a forgotten episode in American art.

Mar 27, 2020 · MacEwen’s artful paintings of quintessential Dutch scenes appealed to critics and collectors back in America. They appreciated his ability to find beauty everywhere and to tell a story about the seemingly simpler times that preceded the Industrial Revolution.
