Tulane University, officially the Tulane University of Louisiana, is a private research university in New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded as the Medical College of Louisiana in 1834 by a cohort of medical doctors, it became a comprehensive public university in the University of Louisiana in 1847.

The uptown campus on St. Charles Avenue has been the main home of Tulane since 1894. Across its 110 acres are 92 buildings that house most of the university’s schools and colleges. It is also where Yulman Stadium, with a capacity of up to 30,000, is located.
