Samaritan Hospital was given to the city of Ashland in 1912 by local philanthropists Jesse Lewis Clark and his wife Mary. Their decision to build the hospital was inspired by a Sunday school lesson about the Good Samaritan. The couple believed Ashland needed “a hospital where no sick person would ever be refused care.”
