Rio Grande is the final instalment in Ford’s so-called cavalry trilogy, which also includes Fort Apache and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. It’s probably the weakest of the three, but it’s by no means a bad film, just a little clunky in places.
Rio Grande: Directed by John Ford. With John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Ben Johnson, Claude Jarman Jr.. A cavalry officer posted on the Rio Grande is confronted with murderous raiding Apaches, a son who's a risk-taking recruit and his wife from whom he has been separated for many years.

Rio Grande, the last of John Ford's 'Calvary Trilogy' is a triumphant paen to the US Calvary and a great romance between John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara and a wonderful showcase of the great character actors who are at the heart of all Ford's films.
