  2. Miss Porter's School ( MPS) is a private college preparatory school for girls founded in 1843 in Farmington, Connecticut. The school draws students from many of the fifty U.S. states, as well as from abroad. International students comprised 14% in the 2017–2018 year. The average class size was 10 students in 2017.

  3. Miss Porter’s girls also learned arithmetic, trigonometry, history and geography, as well as chemistry, physiology, botany, geology and astronomy. To ensure that her students were well-rounded, Miss Porter emphasized excellence in the more traditional academic subjects, as well as the arts, a tradition that continues at our school today.

Sarah Porter (born August 16, 1813, Farmington, Connecticut, U.S.—died February 17, 1900, Farmington) was an American educator and founder of Miss Porter’s School, still one of the leading preparatory schools for girls in the United States. Porter was a younger sister of Noah Porter, later president of Yale College.
