BY MARK MAWSTON. Luc Roeg is the son of seminal director Nicolas Roeg. He appeared in his father’s last narrative film as a cinematographer, and first as a solo director, the much-lauded Walkabout, which received a newly-restored release through Second Sight recently.
Walkabout is a 1971 adventure survival film directed by Nicolas Roeg and starring Jenny Agutter, Luc Roeg, and David Gulpilil. Edward Bond wrote the screenplay, which is loosely based on the 1959 novel by James Vance Marshall.

At the age of 7, he was cast by his father, Nic Roeg, as the nameless ‘boy’ alongside David Gulpilil and Jenny Agutter in Roeg senior’s solo directing debut, the survival odyssey Walkabout, which has now been remastered and released as a handsome-looking Blu-Ray.
Loosely based on a novel by James Vance Marshall (adapted for the screen by acclaimed playwright Edward Bond), it stars Jenny Agutter and Roeg’s own young son Luc as siblings who are taken into the wilderness by their father, seemingly for a picnic.

May 18, 2010 · Walkabout is entirely Roeg’s own. Based on the 1959 novel The Children, by James Vance Marshall (a pseudonym for the English writer Donald G. Payne), Walkabout is, like its source material, essentially a coming-of-age story.
