  1. May 6, 2021 · The SIM card PIN code is meant to protect your data against unauthorized access. Each SIM you insert into a smartphone has a PIN code that you need to enter in order to activate the card. Some mobile providers use standard PIN codes, like 0000 or 1234, for all their SIM cards, while others generate unique PIN codes for each SIM.

    • Power off your Android device. When removing a SIM card, it is absolutely essential that your device is powered off, for both your safety and that of your device.
    • Find a small bobby pin or SIM removal tool. You will need to access a small slot on the side of your device to eject the SIM card tray. Some Androids come with a small pin-like tool designed for this very purpose.
    • Slide the bobby pin into the SIM tray. The SIM tray is likely located along the side of your phone, often on the top-left in a Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy.
    • Remove the SIM card with care. Once you properly plug the bobby pin into the SIM tray's hole, the tray will open and the SIM card will eject. Carefully remove the SIM.
    • What's my SIM PIN? Your SIM PIN protects your SIM card from unauthorized use of your mobile service. If you've protected your SIM card with a PIN, your phone will ask for the SIM PIN each time you restart it or remove and reinsert the SIM.
    • My SIM is locked, so what do I do? The only thing that will unlock your SIM is the PUK key. Don't try to guess the PUK, as entering it incorrectly too many times will permanently lock the SIM—if this happens, you'll have to replace the SIM entirely.
    • What if I can't get my PUK or it doesn't work? Get a new SIM from your provider. The worst thing that can happen is that you lose access to your SIM card completely—as long as you have a removable SIM, your mobile provider should be able to issue you a new one.
