Andreas Maria Maximilian Freiherr von Mauchenheim genannt Bechtolsheim (born 30 September 1955) is a German electrical engineer, entrepreneur and investor. He co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982 and was its chief hardware designer.
Bechtolsheim: I am the only person in my extended family that ever did anything engineering-related, with the exception of my great-great-uncle who invented the milk centrifuge in the late 1800s. He called it the alpha centrifuge and he sold his patent to a Swedish company called Laval.

This new company made its mark by developing (then) state-of-the-art high-speed network switches. In 1995, Cisco acquired Granite Systems for a cool $220 million.
