Sisley's early work served as a link between the Barbizon school and what later became known as Impressionism. Although he was not directly involved in the Post-Impressionist movement, his innovative use of color and texture to invoke emotion was the cornerstone of the later movement.

From 1862, Alfred studied at an influential art school called École des Beaux-Arts located in Paris within the studio of Marc-Charles-Gabriel Gleyre, a Swiss artist residing in France.
Alfred Sisley (born Oct. 30, 1839, Paris, France—died Jan. 29, 1899, Moret-sur-Loing) painter who was one of the creators of French Impressionism.
