The story of Damon (/ ˈ d eɪ m ən /; Greek: Δάμων, gen. Δάμωνος) and Pythias (/ ˈ p ɪ θ i ə s /; Πυθίας or Φιντίας; or Phintias, / ˈ f ɪ n t i ə s /) is a legend in Greek historic writings illustrating the Pythagorean ideal of friendship.
Damon and Pythias, in Greek legend, a celebrated pair of friends who came to signify the willingness to sacrifice oneself for the sake of a friend. Versions of the tale differ, but the best known of these variants is that told by Cicero in De Officiis (“On Moral Duties”).
