Madison Clark (née unknown), affectionately referred to as Maddie, is one of two protagonists and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. She serves as the protagonist from Season 1 to the Season 4 episode "No One's Gone", and is then reinstated as the protagonist following the Season 8 episode "All I See Is Red". Madison is a former guidance counselor at Paul R. Williams High School. She is the mother of Nick and Alicia, and the former wife of Steven Clark. She is also the former wife of English teacher and colleague at school, Travis Manawa.

Later on, Madison becomes a resident and high-ranking member of the Broke Jaw Ranch community with her family, acting as Troy Otto's personal assistant and becomes second-in-command of the militia. Sometime after the Gonzalez Dam destruction, Madison encounters Althea and has a change of attitude, becoming the leader of the Dell Diamond Baseball Stadium community until its fall.

Although believed to have been killed during a noble sacrifice amid the stadium's fall by her family and loved ones, Madison miraculously survived the ordeal by hiding in a water tank and joined a mysterious group known as PADRE after she was saved by the leaders, where she became a collector, kidnapping children from their parents and resettling them into PADRE's community for a supposed better life. After meeting Morgan Jones and learning the fate of her own kids, Madison joins Morgan's Group and dedicates herself to righting her wrongs and taking down PADRE. Following Shrike's defeat, Madison becomes the new leader of PADRE and she seeks to rebuild it in the way that it was meant to be.

After the death of Troy Otto and seemingly sacrificing herself once again to save her friends, Madison is finally reunited with Alicia. Madison decides to return to Los Angeles with Alicia and Tracy Otto to help rebuild. Believing her to be dead, Madison's friends spread the story of her sacrifice and Madison's ideals of trying to build something better, renaming the organization MADRE in her honor.

    Montgomery, Alabama

Madison was born in Montgomery, Alabama in the early 1970's, and the daughter of a prominent local senator. Although her father was successful in his career, he was also severely alcoholic and abusive towards his family. As a result, Madison grew up in a family full of fear, uncertainty, and violence. She often witnessed her mother suffering from the violence, and she sometimes suffered from it herself, too. She took up a fight with her father as a teenager, and when the violence persisted as she grew older, she finally shot her father in the head in order to protect her mother from the violence.

    El Sereno, California

Some point after her graduation in college she moved to El Sereno in California. Working at Paul R. Williams High School, she aided the students of the school in dealing with any difficulties they had during their time. Meeting and marrying construction worker Steven Clark, the two had three children: Nick, a second child who was born stillborn, and Alicia and lived in the El Sereno neighborhood. In later years, Steven commits suicide by deliberately crashing his car. Sometime after, Madison meets divorcé English teacher Travis Manawa, and they begin a relationship, which lead them to being engaged and later married.
