Ypres (/ ˈ iː p r ə / EE-prə, French:; Dutch: Ieper ⓘ; West Flemish: Yper; ‹See Tfd› German: Ypern ⓘ) is a Belgian city and municipality in the province of West Flanders. Though the Dutch name Ieper is the official one, the city's French name Ypres is most commonly used in English.
It is the unofficial capital of Flanders Fields, site of numerous battles during the First World War. The “City of Peace” still commemorates these events daily, at the In Flanders Fields Museum and under its Menin Gate memorial.
