Its normally a choice you make when you set up the overpayments. If the contractual payment reduces, increase the overpayment by the same amount. Net result is the same.

For the last 6 months or so I have been making small overpayments on my Halifax mortgage via online banking. Do I need to contact Halifax to specify that I would like the overpayments to reduce the term of the mortgage?

  8. Nov 13, 2022 · I'm actually surprised that Halifax are OK with that. I spend small amount on my Halifax debit cards, most of the spending is just paying off credit cards and it still counts toward monthly rewards. Even monthly pay in can be achieved just by transferring money among Halifax current account. The £5 reward itself counts as pay in too.
