Barrow-in-Furness is a town in south Cumbria (England), connected by the A590 road. The old town and seaport form about half of the modern Borough of Barrow-in-Furness. Before 1 April 1974, Barrow was in Lancashire .
In 1822 a list of householders gives the names of two schoolteachers in Barrow Village: Captain James Brown – schoolmaster and pilot: Peggy Wilkinson- schoolteacher. Six years later in 1828, a directory covering the north-west of England briefly mentioned the Furness area in a few sentences. Captain James Barrow was listed as schoolteacher.
