Paul Stassino (born "Phaedros Stassinos", 1930 in Patres, Cyprus; died 28th June 2012 in Limassol, Cyprus) appeared on Coronation Street between January and April 1968 as Hungarian demolisher Miklos Zadic.
Moving to the UK when he was twenty, his family wanted him to be a lawyer but he wanted to be an actor. He deceived his family that he was going to Britain to study law and instead got a scholarship at RADA, despite speaking little English. He continued to read law at night for one year, but then gave it up and concentrated on acting.
His other television credits include roles in The Four Just Men, Danger Man, Ghost Squad, Crying Down the Lane, The Saint and Jason King. Although possibly his best known performance was when he played two parts in the 1965 James Bond film Thunderball. On stage, he appeared in productions of Blood Wedding and The Rag Trade.
He directed the casino in Athens in the 1970s and then because of his great passion for his country, he returned to Cyprus, where he worked in the Public Theatre of Nicosia, not only as an actor but also he directed on stage.
Staying in Cyprus thereafter, he moved back to his beloved Limassol when he retired. He is buried in the cemetery Sfalagiotissa in the city.
He was married twice and had three children: Julian, Alex and Elvi.
