Jun 10, 2005 · Glynn County, on Georgia’s southeastern coast, was created on February 5, 1777, as the state’s seventh county. It now comprises Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, and Sea Island, as well as the mainland between the Little Satilla River to the south and the Altamaha River to the north.

Glynn County was created on February 5, 1777 from St David and St Patrick Parishes. The county seat is Brunswick. The county is named in honor of John Glynn (1722- 1779), British Member of Parliament and Sergeant of London, who was sympathetic with the cause of American independence.
Between 1819 and 1860, the northeastern boundary of Glynn, running west, was changed, other than these minor changes, the boundaries stand today as they were in 1805. In the early 1920s, Brantley County was formed from a major part of Wayne County. The parishes soon became Militia Districts.
In 1777, the parishes above named were formed into the County of Glynn, and so named in honour of John Glynn, Esq., distinguished for his unwavering support of the colonies. The principal streams are the Altamaha, Turtle, Little and St. Simon's rivers.
