Thirst Trap: A Corporate Love Story is the fourth episode of Season 35 of The Simpsons, originally produced for Season 34.
In a parody documentary, a young college-dropout CEO embraces the Silicon Valley "fake it until you make it" philosophy and bewitches Mr. Burns into funding her highly dubious dream project.
In "Thirst Trap," Persephone Odair, the founder of a startup company called Lifeboat, falsely claims to have developed a revolutionary technology that can convert seawater into clean drinking water. The episode mocks Elizabeth Holmes and her fraudulent company, Theranos. Persephone seduces Mr. Burns, the owner of a nuclear power plant, into investing billions of dollars into her company, and they turn the power plant into Lifeboat headquarters. However, it is later revealed that her invention does not actually remove the salt but hides it.
Homer discovers the truth and convinces Mr. Burns that Persephone is a fraud. With Homer's help, they shut down the operation before children consume the dangerous water. The episode ends with Mr. Burns divorced Persephone, and the audience learns that she is not a genius, but rather a con artist who fooled everyone with her false claims.
