The house has a collection of 17-18th century furniture and household items giving you a good idea of how wealthy people lived in Madeira several hundred years ago.

    • Drink a poncha… or three. What better way to start this huge list than with a drink? A potent one, naturally. Poncha is Madeira’s national drink and it is bloody LETHAL.
    • Ride up the cable car to Monte and wave at EVERYONE who goes past… …Bonus points if it’s someone who looks like they really don’t want to wave back but they do anyway because that’s the law of the cable car.
    • Find the prettiest (pink!) square in Funchal. You wouldn’t believe how many photos I’ve taken of this square over the last decade. It has to be my favourite photo spot on the whole island.
    • Eat delicious local food at all the incredible restaurants and cafés. Madeira, and Funchal specifically, is a paradise for foodies. I’m not going to go into detail on specific restaurants and cafés to visit here, nor into what traditional Madeiran dishes you have to try.

    • Take in the view from the tower of the Jesuit Collegiate Church (Igreja de São João Evangelistica do Colégio) Climb the 84 steps to the tower of the Collegiate Church for beautiful views over Praço do Municipio and beyond.
    • Pay your respects at Funchal Cathedral (Sé) The Sé or cathedral is Funchal’s principal landmark. Built between 1493 and 1517, it is one of the few survivors of the early days of colonisation.
