Jul 16, 2017 · Paiste is notorious for canceling/re-naming/ changing names for series of cymbals. Some of the lines they've discontinued or renamed over the years: formula 602, 1000, 2000, 3000, sound formula, dimensions, twenty, etc.
Jun 13, 2022 · The 900 series is what replaced the Alpha line. I had a few Alphas some years ago, as well as a couple of 900 crashes and hihats now. I like the 900 series more, they also sound very crisp and glassy, as you described.
Nov 5, 2019 · The 900 series seems a little more versatile and more all around/modern, much like the Alpha series they replaced. As far as production goes, you're correct that they're all B8 alloy, and all of them are stamped, much like all of Paiste's B8 alloy lines.
Pick each cymbal by sound. A set of low cost cymbal might leave you wanting more, and their resale value is very low compared to new prices, so you'll likely lose money when you trade up. If you're sold on the look of matching cymbals though, I'm guessing the Paiste 900 is not a bad pick.
