- Desperate, Light tries to get away again, eventually even begging Ryuk to help him. It becomes clear that Light has finally lost and will be imprisoned. Finding it boring to stay by Light’s side in prison until Light’s death, Ryuk decides to kill Light. He writes the name Light Yagami in his own Death Note, and then dies.

Once Light dies, have Ryuk confront Near and the Task Force. Matsuda asks if he's going to kill them and Ryuk says no. Near asks what he's doing on Earth, and if he intends to stick around to give the Notebook to someone else, he'll stop that Kira too.

I'm pretty sure the anime and manga end on almost exactly the same note. I believe there's 1 extra chapter at the end of the manga that is canon but doesn't affect the overall plot it all.
Zeta42. • 10 yr. ago • Edited 10 yr. ago. Mikami doesn't kill himself on the spot; instead, he is disappointed by seeing Light lose and calls him trash. After getting shot, Light begs Ryuk to write everyone's names in his Death Note and save him. Ryuk "agrees" and writes Light's name in it instead. Light sees what Ryuk has done and dies in horror.

Oct 8, 2020 · Near realized Kira would likely use a catspaw to throw suspicion from himself so simply finding the person in physical possession of a Death Note wasn't enough. He had to make sure he found the Death Note, and make Kira believe he'd won so he would show himself.
