Founded in 1348 by Edmund Gonville, it is the fourth-oldest of the University of Cambridge's 31 colleges and one of the wealthiest.

  8. Visitor Access, Directions & Contacts. History. Gonville and Caius College was founded twice, once by a country clergyman, Edmund Gonville, in 1348, and again by the celebrated Dr. Caius in 1557. Loggan's map of 1688 and his etching of 1690 clearly show the gardens of the college.
