Bettina von Arnim (the Countess of Arnim) (4 April 1785 – 20 January 1859), born Elisabeth Catharina Ludovica Magdalena Brentano, was a German writer and novelist. Bettina (or Bettine ) Brentano was a writer, publisher, composer, singer, visual artist, an illustrator, patron of young talent, and a social activist.
Bettina von Arnim (born April 4, 1785, Frankfurt am Main [Germany]—died Jan. 20, 1859, Berlin, Prussia) was one of the outstanding figures of German Romanticism, memorable not only for her books but also for the personality they reflect. All of her writings, whatever their ostensible themes, are essentially self-portraits.
