Feb 20, 2009 · Built in 1852 and dedicated a year later, St. Patrick Church is the second oldest Roman Catholic Church in Columbus. Founded as the English speaking parish, this church of Norman Gothic design served as the home for three future bishops.
Under Dominican leadership, St. Patrick’s gained fame as the first school and church in Columbus to have centralized steam heat rather than individual stoves. Many of the interior features we see today were installed in the early 1900s.

It was the largest high school in the Diocese into the mid-20th century, until the need for new facilities and lack of personnel due to the Vatican asking for more of the Dominican Fathers to enter missionary work resulted in the announcing of the closure of the school in 1962.
Patrick’s College lost three games to St. Mary’s Institute of Dayton—now Dayton University--in 1909-11. St. Patrick’s/Aquinas became a member of the Columbus High School Conference in all sports with regular games against North, South, East, West and Central High Schools.
St. Patrick Church in downtown Columbus is served by the Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Joseph.
