John Thomas Young Gilroy (30 May 1898 – 11 April 1985) was an English artist and illustrator, best known for his advertising posters for Guinness, the Irish stout. He signed many of his works, simply, "Gilroy".

John Gilroy was an English artist and cartoonist, famous for his advertising posters for Guinness. Gilroy was born in Whitley Bay on 30th May 1898. As a boy he lived with his parents at Kingsley Place in Heaton and attended Sandyford School followed by Heaton Park Road Upper School.
