Warren Harding "Sonny" Sharrock (August 27, 1940 – May 25, 1994) [1] was an American jazz guitarist. His first wife was singer Linda Sharrock , with whom he recorded and performed. One of only a few prominent guitarists who participated in the first wave of free jazz during the 1960s, Sharrock was known for his heavily chorded attack, use of feedback , and distorted saxophone-like lines.
Sonny Sharrock was one of the first American free-jazz guitarists. He played in the '60s and early '70s with Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, Roy Ayers, Herbie Mann and many other greats. He also recorded three solo LPs at the beginning of the '70s with his wife Linda Sharrock on vocals, before discreetly disappearing from the musical scene.
