55 Days at Peking is a 1963 American epic historical war film dramatizing the siege of the foreign legations' compounds in Beijing (then still Peking, in English) during the Boxer Uprising, which took place in China in the summer of 1900.
A star-studded cast of Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, David Niven and Flora Robson portray diplomats and soldiers who defend the International Compound in Peking against the Boxer rebels in 1900. The film was shot in Spain and received two Oscar nominations, but also criticism for its imperialistic tone and historical inaccuracies.
