Alice in the Cities (German: Alice in den Städten) is a 1974 German road movie directed by Wim Wenders. It is the first part of Wenders' " Road Movie trilogy ", which also includes The Wrong Move (1975) and Kings of the Road (1976).
A German journalist and a young girl travel across Europe in search of her grandmother after meeting at a New York airport. The film explores themes of friendship, identity, and the soul of America.
Things change, however, when he has no choice but to take a young girl named Alice (Yella Rottländer) with him on his return trip to Germany, after her mother (Lisa Kreuzer)—whom he has just met—leaves the child in his care.
