Robert Wayne Foster[3] (April 27, 1942 – November 21, 2015) was an American professional boxer who fought as a light heavyweight and heavyweight. He won the world light heavyweight title from Dick Tiger in 1968 via fourth-round knockout, and went on to defend the title fourteen times against thirteen different fighters in total from 1968 to 1974.
Foster was a substitute for Zora Folley, who pulled out with a virus. Foster was knocked down for a nine count in the 1st by a right hand. Foster was staggered badly in the 7th and 8th. As he was staggering in the 8th round, referee Teddy Martin stopped the bout.

Foster made fourteen successful title defenses against thirteen fighters, with both numbers a division record at that time. He retired as champion in 1974, but returned a year later. Foster retired for good after suffering back-to-back knockout losses in 1978.
