Alphonse Francis Areola ( French: [alfɔ̃s aʁeɔla]; [2] born 27 February 1993) is a French professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club West Ham United and the France national team . An academy graduate of PSG, he spent the early parts of his career on loan, enjoying spells with Lens, Bastia, and Villarreal.

- He grew up in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Alphonse Areola’s parents Cleto and Heidi immigrated to France from the Philippines in the late 1980s, settling in Paris’s Grenelle district, just south of the Eiffel Tower.
- He joined his boyhood club as a teenager. Alphonse Areola was scouted by Paris Saint-Germain at the age of 13 and, following negotiations with his family, he signed a five-year training contract to join the club he supported as a boy.
- He was nicknamed 'Superstar' Areola’s outstanding performances and determined, focused personality saw him earn the nickname ‘Superstar’ and quickly move up through the age-groups, playing for PSG’s U19s at the age of 16 and making his ‘B’ team debut at 17 in 2010.

France international Alphonse Areola was an ever-present as West Ham United won the UEFA Europa Conference League in June 2023. A serial trophy winner with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and his country, the Parisian came through at France's famed Clairefontaine national football centre, before featuring for some of Europe's biggest clubs.

Jun 27, 2022 · The goalkeeper joined the Hammers on loan last summer and has now completed a £7.75m move from Paris Saint-Germain. He signed a five-year contract until 2027 and said he felt loved by the fans and the team.
