John Longden (1900-1971) was a British film actor who appeared in more than 80 films, including six directed by Alfred Hitchcock. He also worked in theatre and radio, and had a brief stint in Australia in the 1930s.

At Del Mar in 1956, Longden became the world’s winningest jockey, breaking the record of 4,870 wins by British rider Sir Gordon Richards. Longden’s final ride was a winning one, as he booted George Royal to victory in the 1966 San Juan Capistrano Handicap.

Apr 4, 2014 · John Longden, founder of Pub is the Hub, received his OBE at Buckingham Palace today. Longden was presented with the award by Prince Charles, who launched the scheme in 2001, for his services to "rural communities in the UK".
