Nebara Jozen is a character in the FX limited series, Shōgun, who is portrayed by Nobuya Shimamoto.
Jozen is one of Lord Ishido's most trusted aides.
Jozen is loyal to Lord Ishido and lives in Osaka. After Lord Toronaga resigns from the Council and sneaks off to Ajiro with Yabushige, Jozen is sent to represent the interests of Lord Ishigo. After he arrives in Ajiro, Yabushige goes to speak to Jozen who hands him a letter instructing him to return to Osaka to renew his oath of loyalty to the Council of Regents. Yabushige tells him this is all a misunderstanding but Jozen tells him he’ll take this refusal as a sign he is now an enemy of Ishido. Yabushige shows him he is only trying to help Ishido- by learning the ways of war from the barbarian. This seems to satisfy Jozen for the time being. Yabushige invites Jozen to stay in Ajiro.
The next day, Jozen and his men go to the field where the men are practicing fighting tactics. Yoshii Nagakado accuses Jozen of intolerable behavior that is offensive to his father and he has his men shoot cannonballs at Jozen and his men. Jozen gets hit and his arm is blown off. Nagakado comes to finish the job with a sword, swiftly killing Jozen.
Jozen is a serious man who is very loyal.
