Renata Tebaldi Cavaliere di Gran Croce OMRI (US: / t ə ˈ b ɑː l d i / tə-BAHL-dee, Italian: [reˈnaːta teˈbaldi]; 1 February 1922 – 19 December 2004) was an Italian lirico-spinto soprano popular in the post-war period, and especially prominent as one of the stars of La Scala, San Carlo and, especially, the Metropolitan Opera.
When you talk about Renata Tebaldi, what is always praised and celebrated is the beauty of her inimitable voice; a voice with an unforgettable tone, wonderful liveliness, suitably created “a miracol mostrare” (to show miracles).

It is abundantly clear that the very great Tebaldi is to be found in the first items on the first DVD. There the voice still has the unimpaired velvet that would somewhat disappear after her first vocal crisis in February 1963 to be supplanted with a more metallic though still clearly recognizable Tebaldian sound.
