Gidget (/ ˈ ɡ ɪ dʒ ɪ t /) is a fictional character created by author Frederick Kohner (based on his teenage daughter, Kathy) in his 1957 novel, Gidget, the Little Girl with Big Ideas. The novel follows the adventures of a teenage girl and her surfing friends on the beach in Malibu .
Gidget is a 1959 film based on a book by Gabrielle Upton, about a young girl who learns to surf and falls in love with a surfer named Moondoggie. The film features James Darren, Cliff Robertson, and The Four Preps, and is a classic of the beach party genre.
