The Royal Bank of Scotland (or as it prefers to be known nowadays, RBS) is also headquartered in Edinburgh. It took over NatWest in around 2000 and NatWest is a brand/subsidiary of RBS Group. RBS and HBOS are totally separate banks, each issuing their own banknotes through their respective Scottish banks (RBS and BoS).

Jul 21, 2011 · 21 July 2011 at 11:52AM. Halifax has nothing to do with RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland), its Halifax and Bank of Scotland, so if you have a Bank of Scotland branch near you, I believe you can pay into a Halifax account there. Debt free and staying that way! :beer:
