Feb 11, 2021 · Lichess uses the Glicko-2 algorithm with an initial rating of 1500. Neither of them uses the Elo algorithm ( not ELO - it's not an abbreviation). Furthermore, it doesn't make sense to compare the ratings even if both sites used the same system, as they have different player pools.

Because White's rating was considered unreliable but Black's was reliable, White was going to gain or lose many points, and Black was going to gain or lose few points. This is a feature of the Glicko-2 rating system used by lichess. According to their FAQ:

Feb 14, 2015 · 6. IMO, Lichess ratings are a little bit inflated. My rating at lichess topped at ~1750 while my FIDE rating is ~1500. In comparison , chess.com is a little bit less inflated. My Standard (30 min) there is ~1600 which is about the same for the top player I could beat at my level. Share.

And the best chess engines aren't based on brute force anymore anyway, but something more akin to analysis (alphazero is a neural network). May 27, 2021 · I'm sure lichess gives higher rating than chess.com for the same player. In fact, the lichess rating is also higher than the FIDE rating. I personally know a lot of FIDE 2200 rated players achieve ~ 2600 on lichess, equivalent to GM on FIDE scale (but they are not GM). I'm personally also a few hundred ELO points behind on chess.com than lichess.
