Oct 24, 2024 · As far as I know, there isn't an ISO standard for "regions" of the world. Back in 2015 when I wrote this, I worked for a company that split its operations into AMER/APAC/EMEA and this list was used for various bits and bobs, e.g. routing support tickets to the right team.

Oct 26, 2024 · Specifically the short codes for CN are listed as numbers instead of Alpha2 codes (i.e. CN-11 or CN-21 instead of CN-BJ or CN-LN) It's possible that regions of other countries are also affected. This was implemented in ISO 3166-2 on 2017-11-23 and appears to have been part of the SAC 2007 changes.
