People who have read and enjoyed Agatha Christie, Edmund Crispin, Anthony Berkeley ( aka Francis Iles ), Ngaio Marsh et al will get more from it than those who haven't. The present day storyline ( there are two, the other set in the 1950s ) is perhaps more 'Ruth Rendell'.
