Jul 31, 2024 · Our family really enjoyed this movie. It’s engaging and full of heart and humor. We’re all neurodivergent and my kids really seemed to see themselves in Nimona. My youngest even said she thinks the movie is about autism (she was captivated by it, especially Nimona’s big expressions of hurt and anger near the end).

It is based on the 2015 graphic novel of the same name by ND Stevenson . This movie was notable for being the last feature film Blue Sky Studios worked on before being shut down in April 2021, leaving it unfinished despite 75% of the work being complete.

For example, the last name of Ballister, one of the main characters, was changed from Blackheart to Boldheart, the setting of being a mad scientist disappeared altogether, and Nimona's childhood and ending were different from the original version.
