☆ I think wings and subtypes are complicating things sometimes. For example, I see so many people saying "I'm a type 5 but I'm emotional, I guess my 4 wing plays a role" "I'm a type 9 but since my dominant wing is 8, I'm 8ish in many situations". Or "I'm a 4 but I don't like melancholy, I suppress those feelings so I'm a sp4."

In my opinion, Enneagram seems to be more about the responses of the ego to a simulated stressor than about a measurable strength. A fix responds to a perceived stressor differently than a wing, as a wing is linked to the core or fix it's attached to. It is not the same perceived stressor, and so the ego forms complexes around it differently.
