FACT SHEET. Born 1953 October 1 Los Angeles California. Studied piano (reluctantly) at age six. Played clarinet, french horn, eventually stuck with trombone through fifth grade. Picked up alto sax in the sixth grade, hoping to join a surf/rock band. Played tenor sax in a blues band in high school.

Sam Phipps. Sam Phipps has been published in the Bridport Prize anthology, Poems for Grenfell Tower, Nutmeg, Gutter and elsewhere. He was longlisted in the 2020 National Poetry Competition and completed Newcastle University’s poetry MA course in 2021.
